In the summer of 2009, I started running a casual after school art program for latency-aged boys. Not long after, I cofounded and ran a mobile art program for kids in foster care called TRACK: Traveling Art Cards for Kids. The small canvas size, 2.5" x 3.5" works well for a population of kids who need predictability, structure and success. I leveraged this creative space as a vehicle to teach kids prosocial skills. For nearly 3 years, I hauled a suitcase full of materials from residential treatment facilities to therapeutic summer camps to after school programs and worked with 12 sites in all. I was overjoyed to combine my passion for working with marginalized youth and my love of art in one super sandwich.
